About Joanne

I believe it’s time to set higher standards, and Ward 6 deserves a representative deeply rooted in our communities—someone committed to elevating our quality of life. I’m running to be your next Ward 6 Councillor because I believe in building a community where families thrive, young people have access to affordable housing, and seniors age with dignity.

Calgary has been my home for 46 years, and for the past 30, I’ve lived in Wildwood, where my husband Allan and I raised our two children. As a dedicated volunteer and current Vice-President of the Wildwood Community Association, I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges and opportunities that face our community.

My involvement with the Rotary Club of Calgary Fish Creek left a lasting impact on me. The Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” has become the foundation of my leadership philosophy. I am committed to setting a higher standard of service, fostering fairness, honesty, integrity, and a collaborative spirit in everything I do. As a Rotarian, I have supported organizations like the Calgary Food Bank and the Calgary Reads Annual Book Sale, witnessing the power of community service in action.

My commitment to taking action and finding solutions has driven my involvement with federal and provincial political associations. Over the years, I’ve built a strong network of relationships that I can leverage to benefit Ward 6. Through my many rewarding volunteer experiences, I’ve learned the importance of listening closely and working diligently to deliver what Ward 6 is saying it needs.

One of my greatest passions is music. My family’s musical heritage inspired me to volunteer with the Calgary Fiddlers Association, where I eventually served as Operations Manager. In that role, I successfully wrote grant applications and managed finances, ensuring that this cultural asset continues to enrich Calgary’s youth and remain the Calgary ambassadors they have been for over 40 years.

Professionally, my career has spanned multiple sectors, including oil and gas, education, not-for-profits, arts and culture, and government. I began working in the oil and gas industry at 20, gaining diverse experience in records management, joint venture accounting, and production accounting. Later, while raising my young children, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and Applied Linguistics from the University of Calgary.

I discovered that I had the entrepreneurial spirit within me, empowering me to embark on my own business journey. I launched my own administrative consulting business to help other entrepreneurs and small businesses in achieving their goals, providing expertise in operations management, government compliance, strategic planning, program management, stakeholder engagement, and budget oversight. These are the same skills I now bring to serve Ward 6.

Running a business has taught me the importance of honesty, self-motivation, discipline, and unwavering commitment to my clients. To truly succeed, it’s essential to build lasting relationships based on trust and results. The relationships I’ve formed over the years are what keep me going, and seeing my clients’ success puts a smile on my face.

Every morning, I’m grateful to start my day in Ward 6—a vibrant community filled with hardworking people striving for their dreams. I love connecting with my neighbours, hearing their stories, and respecting their diverse perspectives. I believe that together, we can find solutions to the challenges we face.

In pursuit of my commitment to excellence, I am currently working toward a French Language Proficiency Certification, expanding my ability to engage with all residents of our multicultural community.

As your councillor, I will listen, act, and remain accountable. Together, we can create a brighter future for Ward 6. I am ready to serve, and I look forward to earning your trust and your vote.
